Process Engineer
Full-time · On site, Lausanne
Summary of position
We are building the optical layer that the next generation of AI and quantum infrastructure will run on. Our first product is an optical circuit switch built on a spatial light modulator. As Process Engineer, you will turn our device designs into reproducible processes in our research cleanroom in Lausanne. You will own recipes, runs and metrology day to day, working closely with our Lead Process Engineer and device physicist. This is a hands-on role at an early-stage company, so you'll own real decisions and help set the technical bar as we grow. If you like taking a process from the first split to a repeatable recipe, you'll fit well here.
What you'll do
- Process development. Develop and own recipes for electro-optic films, electrodes, optical coatings and patterned devices.
- Controlled runs. Plan and execute process splits with witness structures, traceable sample IDs and run travelers.
- Metrology. Measure thickness, stress, roughness and uniformity, including optical metrology such as reflectometry and ellipsometry. Keep critical measurements repeatable.
- Characterization. Deliver wafer and die maps with optical, electrical and material data.
- Failure analysis. Separate material, geometry and measurement effects, and justify the next process change.
- Documentation and transfer. Write recipes and release procedures that a second engineer can reproduce.
- AI in the workflow. Use AI tools for data analysis, run tracking and documentation.
- Cross-team work. Work with device design, test and electronics so the process window matches device tolerances.
What we are looking for
- Master's degree (or higher) in physics, materials science, photonics, electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of hands-on cleanroom process work.
- Process depth in deposition, etching, lithography or bonding.
- At least two process iterations you personally owned, including a failed run and what you changed.
- Experience with thin-film metrology and design of experiments.
- Clear written and verbal communication, fluent English.
- Strong problem-solving in novel or ill-defined situations.
- Comfortable using AI tools across the workflow.
Nice to have
- Experience with various photonic cavities, including vertical resonators and optical coatings.
- Electro-optic materials: thin-film lithium niobate or tantalate, barium titanate (BTO), or EO polymers.
- Wafer bonding or heterogeneous integration of electro-optic films.
- Process transfer to or from an external foundry.
- Optical or electro-optical device characterization.
Compensation
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
- Equity and benefits available, to be agreed upon.
